Weather Information
KPNW (AM 1120), KUGN (AM 590) radio stations and KEZI (Channel 9) TV broadcast information concerning school closures or delayed starts due to bad weather conditions. ECA will follow the same schedule as the Eugene 4J school district. Check the ECA Website News page for current updates.
Lunches
Students should bring their lunches to school. Hot lunches may be available from time to time, but are not available on a regular basis. Caffeinated beverages are not to be brought to school or school-sponsored activities.
Roadrunner Review
ECA publishes a weekly parent newsletter called the Roadrunner Review. This is printed on light green paper and distributed to students each Thursday for them to take home to their parents.
Volunteers
Volunteers are welcome and needed at Emerald Christian Academy. The school is indebted each year to parents and friends of ECA who donate their time and skills to building and grounds upkeep, media center, fundraising, field trip assistance, classroom learning activities and social events, fitness days and much more. Those interested in volunteering should contact the school office for more information about these rewarding opportunities.
Home and School Association
The Home and School Association is a formally organized group comprised of parent volunteers, staff members, and church members. This auxiliary organization seeks to strengthen the school program by bringing families together in a variety of ways throughout the year.
Student Medical Insurance
All students are covered by school medical insurance and the premium is paid out of the entrance fee. The coverage is for traveling to and from school, and while engaged in school-sponsored and supervised activities. An additional insurance fee will be charged for students participating in snow skiing.
This insurance is secondary to a family’s health insurance plan. If a family does not have health insurance coverage, the student insurance provided by the school serves as the primary insurer. Student insurance covers injuries only. It does not cover items such as glasses, musical instruments, clothing, watches, money, personal property, and bicycles.
Any accident must be reported to the teacher and to the office immediately to qualify for insurance coverage. Claim forms are in the school office.
Emergency Drills
Fire and disaster drills are conducted at regular intervals throughout the school year. Students are expected to participate in these drills and to follow drill instructions as specified by a staff member.
Child Abuse
According to Oregon law, all school teachers and staff members who have reasonable cause to believe that any child with whom they come in contact within their official capacity has suffered abuse or that any adult with whom they come in contact within their official capacity has abused a child, must report or cause a report to be made to the appropriate officials. Emerald Christian Academy adheres to this legal requirement.
Asbestos
The ECA facility has been examined by a certified asbestos inspector and this report is kept on file in the school office for those wishing to review it. The asbestos in the school is in a non-friable condition and presents no hazard to anyone at the present time. It will be inspected at periodic intervals to ascertain any change in the material.
